Athletic taping is one of the most versatile tools in a sports chiropractor's toolkit. Whether you're preparing for a competition, managing a nagging injury, or recovering from a strain, the right taping technique can make a meaningful difference in how your body feels and functions — without slowing you dow

Who It's For

Athletic taping is appropriate for a wide range of patients and situations. Competitive and recreational athletes use it to protect joints during high-demand activity. Patients returning from injury use it as a bridge between treatment and full return to sport. Active professionals and weekend warriors use it to manage chronic joint irritation without missing training. Dr. Green assesses your specific needs and applies the technique — or combination of techniques — that gives you the best outcome for your activity level and goals.

Two Approaches, One Goal

There are two primary taping methods used at Toronto Concierge Chiropractic, each serving a different clinical purpose depending on what your body needs.

Kinesiology Taping

Using a flexible, elastic tape applied along muscles and joints to support movement without restricting it. By lifting the skin slightly, it reduces pressure on pain receptors, improves circulation, and gives muscles and joints proprioceptive feedback — essentially reminding the body how to move correctly. It's commonly used for shoulder instability, knee tracking issues, lower back support, and post-injury swelling reduction. Unlike rigid taping, kinesiology tape can be worn for several days and through training sessions and showers.

Athletic Taping

Using a more ridged cotton based tape provides firm, structural support to unstable or vulnerable joints. It is most commonly applied to ankles, wrists, and thumbs before competition or during return-to-sport phases following a sprain or strain. Where kinesiology tape supports movement, rigid taping restricts it — protecting the joint from the range of motion that caused the injury in the first place while allowing the athlete to continue competing or training safely.

Part of a Complete Care Plan

Athletic taping is most effective when it's part of a broader treatment plan rather than a standalone solution. On its own, tape supports and protects. Combined with chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue therapy, and targeted rehabilitation, it becomes one layer of a comprehensive approach that addresses the root cause of the problem while keeping you moving in the meantime. At Toronto Concierge Chiropractic, taping is applied as a clinical tool — not an add-on — and is always integrated with intention into your overall care.
